Process

Bungay Folk Festival is Suffolk's newest folk festival, with its first year running in 2024.

The team came to me with a need of creating a brand which both encapsulates the festival, but can also exist for rest the year through events, gigs, gatherings etc. With this came the need for the brand to be adaptable to whatever events may come up, long and short term.

The logo and the brand's look and feel was born from a plectrum. It is a physical symbol of music, recognised by all. I took this concept and ran with it.

The logo itself echoes the shape of a plectrum. Throughout the branding I used that shape as a base to warp and manipulate which can be seen used within the background of the assets. The shapes in turn represent the people and community that creates Bungay Folk Festival. Their different ages, genders, backgrounds & instruments, all coming together to create something beautiful, special and memorable.

The vast array of needs for this project allowed me to robustly test the brand and push it to its limits, and I can confidently say it passed all tests required, from a 5cm sticker to a 3 meter long banner. The colours and pattern allowed for such a clear and recognisable aesthetic. This thread is beautifully sewn through the small town.
